Abstract: | This paper describes a comprehensive research project on material emissions and indoor air quality modeling currently underway at the Institute for Research in Construction, National Research Council of Canada. It involves small and full scale chamber studies of source and sink characteristics of building materials and furnishings, and the development of models for predicting the contaminant concentrations in buildings. The end goal of this project is to develop an integrated knowledge based expert system for building designers, engineers, owners and managers to select building materials/furnishings as well as ventilation strategies to achieve an acceptable indoor air quality in buildings. |
